KitchenAid Does Damage Control

In case you missed it, KitchenAid became the latest company to experience a PR nightmare via their social media channels. During Wednesday’s presidential debate, a member of the KitchenAid social team tweeted a joke regarding President Obama’s deceased grandmother from the company’s corporate account. However, despite recent similar situations (Chick-fil-a anyone?) KitchenAid managed to handle the PR nightmare with some grace, meeting critics head on, responding to countless tweets and quickly going on record to say the situation had been resolved. In such a connected world, situations like this one are bound to get out of control, but KitchenAid demonstrated an admirable damage control strategy that other companies should emulate.

Facebook Hits One Billion User Mark

This week, the social media juggernaut hit one of its most significant milestones to date: over one billion active users. In a blog post, Zuckerberg writes, “Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life. I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.” Despite having a rocky year with their disappointing IPO, Facebook remains the social giant for people and businesses alike.
