The 5 W’s of Social Media

Everyone is talking about social media and how great it is. There is so much your company can do with it that you can even find yourself drowning in all of your efforts. The most important thing to do before embarking on a social media frenzy is to plan your strategy. For this reason I have created the 5 W’s of social media.

Who: It is important to find your target market and focus on their needs. In order to keep your audience you need to give them exactly what they want and more.

Social media is a great way to promote many different aspects of your company and mainly get your name out there. Your company needs to focus on one thing to promote at a time, talking about too many things can become confusing and overwhelming for people in your social media network. You can use each platform for different things such as promoting a product on Facebook and building customer relationships through Twitter, but it works best when you focus each application towards one goal.

Where: Twitter, WordPress, and LinkedIn are just a few of the many social media applications out there. There are numerous different forms of social media including blogging, networking, and photo sharing to name a few,  and you need to decide which ones you are going to start using. It is best to start out with a few and really learn how to use them before signing up for all of them and realizing it is too much to handle.

When: Today! It is easy and FREE to start using social media. With a little research you can become a social media guru in no time!

Why: Before getting started, your company needs to identify the ideal outcome and their expectations of using social media tools. Are you looking to generate leads? Improve sales? Create buzz around your new products? Depending on what you wish to achieve will help decide where you will choose to post social media and what you will post.
