Advanced salesforce.com Syncing Options

This entry is part 7 of 8 in the series Advanced Salesforce

Concept

Does your salesforce.com instance use person accounts? Do you ignore lead records in salesforce.com? Then you may want to enable one of these salesforce.com connector features. Please review the options below and contact Pardot Services for feature enablement.

Syncing with salesforce.com Person Accounts

There are two options to consider when syncing your Pardot account with salesforce.com Person Accounts.

1. Pardot will create leads in salesforce.com and sync with salesforce.com person accounts.
By default the Pardot / salesforce connector will create new salesforce.com records as leads and when the lead is converted into a person account, Pardot is unable to see the person account. Pardot will be unable to sync with the person account and instead Pardot will recreate a lead to sync with.

If you use person accounts in salesforce.com, you will want to adjust this default behavior. By enabling person account syncing with lead creation, Pardot will still create records in salesforce as leads but when the leads are converted into person accounts, Pardot will sync with the person account and no additional salesforce leads will be created for that prospect.

With this syncing, a salesforce.com person account will sync to a Pardot prospect record that is associated with an Account in Pardot. Pardot will not merge the two records into one view as in salesforce.com. The field mapping will remain the same — contact fields will map to prospect fields and salesforce.com account level fields will map to Pardot account fields. On the Pardot record you will see the Contact ID for the salesforce.com contact ID that has become the Person Account.

2. Pardot will create and sync with just salesforce.com Person Accounts.

If you do not use salesforce.com leads and you do use salesforce.com  person accounts, you will want to adjust the default connector behavior. By enabling person account syncing and disabling lead creation, Pardot will create person accounts in salesforce.com. Pardot will sync with just the person accounts and no additional salesforce.com leads will be created for that prospect.

With this syncing, a salesforce.com person account will sync to a Pardot prospect record that is associated with an Account in Pardot. Enabling Pardot to only create salesforce.com contacts

By default the Pardot / salesforce.com connector will create new salesforce.com records as leads. However, you can adjust the default setting so that Pardot creates contacts in salesforce.com instead of leads. If this feature is enabled on your account, Pardot will look first at your salesforce.com leads to see if there is an existing lead record with the same email address with which Pardot can sync. If there is no existing lead record, Pardot looks for an existing Contact record with the same email address. If no salesforce.com lead or contact exists with the same email address, Pardot will create a new salesforce.com contact record.

Please note that if you have had your Pardot / salesforce.com connector active for a while, you will have to clean up your salesforce.com database before enabling this feature.

Notes
